Owner Shelby Gray riding a horse in Wyoming

OUR STORY

Goose Bar Training is owned and operated by Shelby Gray. Shelby grew up in rural Ohio and started riding at a young age. While horses have always been part of her life, she didn’t consider they could become her career until she moved out to Western Wyoming in 2016 to work on a ranch.

While on the ranch, Shelby gave lessons to individuals of all ages and abilities both on the trail and in an arena setting. She was responsible for maintaining the herd of 100 horses supporting the ranch manager in all aspects of their care.

She spent several years working on the same ranch before moving to Riverton to earn two Associate Degrees in both Equine Science and Equine Management at Central Wyoming College. While there she studied the training styles and philosophies of many acclaimed trainers including Jane Savoie, Al Dunning, Sandy Collier, Richard Winters and Mike Majors. Their methods influenced Shelby’s approach as she worked in courses including rope horse training, cutting, reining, cow work, and jumping. Additionally, while at CWC, Shelby competed on the Ranch Horse Team and earned a Level 2 Riding Certificate for English and Western disciplines from the Certified Horsemanship Association.

During her time in Riverton, Shelby worked for Angel Quarter Horses halter breaking and starting their colts utilizing the skills she had learned from her studies. Most recently, Shelby traveled down to Scottsdale, AZ where she interned under world class trainer Al Dunning. Shelby has now returned to Wyoming and is looking forward to serving the Laramie community.
